Once the VibeHound has been connected to a computer's USB port and its LabVIEW driver has been properly loaded into the laptop, it only takes a click to obtain digitized time waveform vibration data. The datalogger contains a piezoelectric accelerometer, constant current power source, amplifier, filter, digital signal processor, data memory and USB client transceiver. Additionally, bandpass filtering is built into the datalogger allowing users to obtain digitized vibration data within two common enveloping bands; 50 Hz to 1 KHz and 500 Hz to 10 KHz.

Data collection parameters such as Sampling Rate (125 Hz to 65 KHz) and Sample Count (20 to 50,000) can be easily configured via the LabVIEW interface. Through this interface the VibeHound responds to a simple list of USB protocol commands such as Configure, Acquire, Sleep, Wakeup, Status and EEPROM. After the VibeHound has acquired the digitized vibration time waveform this data can be easily exported and processed using additional LabVIEW modules to obtain various vibration parameters such as FFT’s etc.

Using the VI interface shown above the sensor can be configured by the user by entering in the desired Sample Rate and Sample Count. Using the Channel drop down menu the user can choose to acquire the full time waveform or obtain data using one of the two bandpass filters that are available. Then by simply clicking on the “Data” button the sensor will acquire and display the vibration time data measured by the VibeHound. After reviewing this vibration data users can then save this data as a text file. To facilitate viewing saved data the VI window provides users with the ability to load saved data into the VI window. The VibeHound makes vibration measurements as easy as a point and click of the mouse.
